Various Everything Is Ending Here (Homesleep)

Some compilations are put together so loosely that if you had to name them blindfolded you wouldn’t know where to start. ‘Everything Is Ending Here’ is similarly difficult to pin down; is it an indie-rock compilation? Who are these people? What is this psychedelic folk doing alongside a muscular guitar workout? This is no lazy bin-filler however; rather it is a carefully crafted tribute to Pavement, and the choice of acts - Future Pilot AKA (spacious ambience), Magoo (clangourous indie-rock), Fonda 500 (that psych-folk we mentioned) - bring to these covers an interpretative palette that enriches the reputations of Pavement and performer alike. The normally reliable Garlic play it unusually straight - auditioning for a part on ‘Dead Ringers’ perhaps? - but there’s so much going on here it’s impossible to dislike.
